Whitby Abbey

Whitby Abbey is a ruined medieval monastery located in the seaside town of Whitby, North Yorkshire, England. The abbey was founded in the 7th century by the Anglo-Saxon king, Oswy of Northumbria, and was later home to a community of Benedictine monks. The abbey was famously the site of the Synod of Whitby in 664 AD, which resolved a dispute between the Celtic and Roman branches of Christianity. Today, Whitby Abbey is a popular tourist attraction, with visitors coming from all over the world to explore its ruins and learn about its history.
